Partner Jack Gross Wins Zoning Decision for Business Client
Glemser Technologies on Wednesday received the city zoning hearing board's approval to open shop in the former Bethlehem Club in the 500 block of North New Street. The software company plans to renovate the club's former dining rooms into offices for its 30 employees but plans to keep the basement bowling alley and lounge as company recreation space.

The company hopes to move from its West Broad Street headquarters to the club by the end of the year if the sale goes through and renovations are completed on time, co-owner Ray Glemser said.

"It's a one-of-a-kind building," he said. "We've always admired being downtown."

The 18,000-square-foot building will allow the company to expand to possibly 50 Bethlehem employees, architect Chris Portner said. In addition to the 30 employees the company has in Bethlehem, it has 15 employees in New Jersey and Massachusetts, Glemser said.

The company needed the zoning hearing board's approval to open in the building because it is in a residentially zoned area. But as Portner pointed out, all the buildings in the 500 block of New Street are occupied by businesses and the city's new draft zoning code calls for the block to be changed to commercial zoning.

The zoning hearing board gave unanimous approval to the company's plans.
