Lehigh Valley Law Firm Celebrates 40 Years in Practice

June 29, 2016 | Category: Firm News | Tags:

Founded in 1976 by Malcolm J. Gross, Paul A. McGinley, and Honorable Carol K. McGinley, Gross McGinley opened its doors in a restored Victorian building on 5th Street in Allentown. From humble beginnings, the firm grew and more space was needed. Gross McGinley relocated to its present location in Crown Tower, at 33 South Seventh Street in Allentown, just south of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, in 1986.  A former clothing mill, the firm occupies most of the 25,000-square foot, beautifully restored building. Over the past four decades, the firm made strategic decisions to merge with other successful Lehigh Valley law firms and attorneys. This allowed Gross McGinley to expand its service offering over the years as well as expand geographically, now with offices in Emmaus (est. 2011), Easton (est. 2012), and Lehighton (est. 2015), and serving clients both nationally and internationally.

Gross McGinley’s continuing success, especially during some difficult years, is a result of the firm’s commitment, sustainability, leadership, and service.

          Commitment

Gross McGinley maintained its presence in downtown Allentown through good times and bad, even after businesses fled to the west side and long before economic incentives were offered. The firm understands its role in the region’s economy and is committed to upholding a standard it set for itself long ago.

The firm is also committed to providing clients with knowledgeable and experienced legal representation. To do so, Gross McGinley remains on the cutting-edge of new developments in the law, legislation, and business protocol. These developments largely impact the firm’s clients and providing clients with the best possible outcome is a priority.

          Sustainability

Gross McGinley has promoted sustainable growth over the past forty years. With a sense of pride in remaining a locally-owned business, the firm has steadily acquired attorneys and staff as well as merging with larger practices, allowing the firm to offer a wider range of legal counsel and provide clients with more efficient service. By prioritizing this business model, the firm was able to maintain staffing levels even throughout the worst years of the recent recession.

From attorneys to support staff, the firm consistently seeks intelligent, highly skilled individuals who understand the importance of serving clients with timeliness and responsiveness.  Gross McGinley’s employees understand how to listen to clients and determine a legal strategy that meets their short-term needs and long-term goals, in a collaborative environment.

          Leadership

The firm’s attorneys understand that by being strong leaders in the business community, they contribute to the success of the region’s economy. They have offered many hours of their time to leading local organizations. Gross McGinley attorneys have served various professional organizations including the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, Allentown Commercial and Industrial Development Authority, Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Health Care, Lehigh Valley Health Network Board of Associates, American Red Cross of the Lehigh Valley, Da Vinci Science Center, and the Institute for Surgical Excellence, to name a few.

Gross McGinley also values the leadership of its attorneys in the legal industry, as well. Over the past forty years, four attorneys have served as Presidents of the Bar Association of Lehigh County with a currently sitting as the President-Elect and Treasurer. One of the firm’s paralegals serves on the Steering Committee for the Lehigh County Paralegal Association. A few of our employees serve as Chairs of Bar committees and have formerly held board positions in both Lehigh and Northampton Counties. One of Gross McGinley’s young associates served as a District Representative for the Young Lawyers’ Division of the American Bar Association.

          Service

Gross McGinley has instilled a strong sense of pride in its attorneys and staff to serve the community in which they live and work. From planting trees in local parks and flying kites with inner-city kids to serving on non-profit boards and providing pro bono legal counsel, the firm has exemplified what it means to value service.

The firm’s employees serve on boards for regional non-profits large and small. How they give back is a direct reflection of what they value most. Whether through musical education for local youth, a historical museum, a shelter for domestic violence victims, or land preservation, the firm’s employees have fostered a deep connection to their community and a passion to serve.

Gross McGinley served as local counsel, pro bono, for the City of Allentown in a precedent-setting case in which the City changed its housing discrimination ordinance to forbid discrimination based on sexual orientation. Our attorneys spent countless hours serving on and working for numerous entities in Pennsylvania with a goal of equality for all. These ideals continue to today, evident in the firm’s commitment to supporting and serving the LGBT community.

As a result of these values, the firm and its attorneys are well recognized not only in the legal industry but throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond. Recognitions received by the firm and employees over the past forty years include:

To our employees and clients, fellow businesses and communities, and all who have trusted us as legal counsel,

Thank You.

We look forward to serving you for the next 40 years.
