‘Communities in Schools’ Rings Opening Bell on New York Stock Exchange
On Monday, January 5, 2015, the Communities in Schools (CIS) organization was invited to ring the Opening Bell on the New York Stock Exchange. CIS Board Member Larry Stern pushed the button signaling the start of the trading day. He was joined by Jim Purcell and Ryan Riley in addition to regional directors, site coordinators and students from Delaware and Pennsylvania.
Executive Director of the Lehigh Valley CIS chapter, Tim Mulligan, and a 7th grade student from South Mountain Middle School were in attendance to represent our community. This iconic event is periodically opened to national nonprofits and charitable organizations to raise awareness of their worthy causes. The Opening Bell ceremony on the NYSE is considered one of the most watched live TV events in the world, reaching approximately 100 million people.
