Attorney Robert M. Campbell Claims Arbitration Victory

Recently, a landlord/tenant matter was brought to arbitration in which Associate Attorney Robert M. Campbell earned victory successfully arguing on his client’s behalf that the landlord was taking advantage of them and an ailing relative.

Attorney Campbell’s clients were living with an elder relative that required special needs in the end-of-life stage. Through a special Medicaid program provided by the federal government, the renters were able to obtain needed renovations to a bathroom to accommodate the sick relative with the permission of the landlord. After a substantial upgrade to the bathroom was completed, the tenants received a non-renewal letter from the landlord advising they would not be permitted to renew their lease. While typically, landlords can choose to not renew a lease for any reason, Attorney Campbell successfully argued that the landlord’s issuance of a non-renewal was simply retaliatory, and an attempt to take advantage of a newly renovated bathroom to rent to new tenants at an increased rate. As such, the landlord’s claim for possession was denied.

The win is a feather in the cap of Attorney Campbell and the tenants get to remain in their home and focus on tending to their sick relative. Congratulations Robert on the win.
