Attorneys Reilly and Cohen Receive Jury Verdict in Case of Jill Mancini v. Northampton County
Attorneys Patrick J. Reilly and Samuel E. Cohen tried a case in federal court. They represented Jill Mancini, formerly employed for 7 years in Northampton County as an Assistant County Solicitor. In the case of Jill Mancini v. Northampton County, et al, Attorneys Reilly and Cohen received a jury verdict for Ms. Mancini on her claim of a violation of her due process rights against Northampton County of $94,232. The attorneys filed a petition for attorney’s fees and costs because the Civil Rights Act permits the awarding of fees and costs to the prevailing party. Reilly and Cohen received an order from Judge Juan Sanchez of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in which he awarded $177,215.33 in attorney’s fees and $8,803.27 in costs. The trial judge has already denied the post trial relief requested by the County, and the County has appealed. If the County is unsuccessful on it’s appeal, it will need to pay the underlying verdict as well as the fees and costs just awarded and any additional fees and costs incurred on the appeal.
